Obedience to follow Steadfastly
Hymn
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Refrain
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
Refrain
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Refrain
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Refrain
Proverbs 16:20 (Amp) “He who pays attention to the word [of God] will find good, And blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is he who trusts [confidently] in theLORD.”
What is Obedience?
Compliance with an order, request or submission to another’s authority.
It also means “to trust” “to belief” absolute dependency on His word.
God has given humankind (us) the innate power of choice whether to obey Him absolutely or otherwise, the choice of obedience leads to God's promised blessing of life; the choice of disobedience leads to curse, judgment, and death.
Why Obedience is important
You cannot replace obedience with good works or sacrifices:

Abraham’s Obedience
The obedience of Abraham is perhaps most exemplary in the bible and was counted for righteousness, he was tagged “an epitome of faith and the friend of God”
Abraham's obedience results in his being elected a chosen one for a special role in God's salvation-plan for humankind.
He obeyed but something happened, he took Lot with Him which wasn’t part of what God told him, (Gen 12:1 leave your people and your father’s household), half obedience if there’s anything like that, and this created a problem for him until he had a separation with the excess laugagge (Lot). He experienced a change of name, then the fulfilment of God’s covenant upon his life.
Beloveth, what is/are your own Lot restraining the promises of God upon your life, family, career and your journey with Him

Why Obedience is important
- Obedience is a command – John 14:15 – if you love me, you will keep my commandments (100%).
- Obedience is an act of worship – Rom 12:1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.(NLT)
- God Rewards Obedience - Gen 22:18 "And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me."(NLT)
- Luke 11:28 “Jesus replied, "But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.";(NLT)
- Through Obedience, we experience the blessings of Holy Living. 2Corinthians 7:1 “Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.”(NLT) Obedience is not learnt overnight; it's a lifelong process that we pursue by making it a daily goal.
- Obedience to God Proves Our Love - 2 John 6 “Andthis is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.(ESV)
- Obedience to God Demonstrates Our Faith - 1 John 2:3–6
- Disobedience Leads to Sin and Death – “1Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.”(ESV)
- Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice - 1 Samuel 15:22–23. Samuel replied, “Has the Lord as much pleasure in your burnt offerings an sacrifices as in your obedience? Obedience is far better than sacrifice. He is much more interested in your listening to him than in your offering the fat of rams to him.
You cannot replace obedience with good works or sacrifices:
- Obedience is not your eloquence, how you are so accurate to deliver His word or how fervent you are with His word.
- Obedience is not position or departments you are in your local church or community.
- Obedience is not whether you are the highest giver to His work in your local church or your neighbourhood or your offerings is the greatest among others.
- Obedience is not determined how many times you have read the bible from Genesis to Revelation.
- Obedience is not how many bible study or prayer meeting platforms you attend, is not being a resource member and carrying out every instructions or being loyal to your disciplers.
- Obedience is not having a good character, great qualities, being religiously devoted or determined by the measure of your good works. Cornelius (Acts10:1-23) was a devoted and religious man but his devotion and good works was not sufficient or can stand in place of obedience and holiness to work/walk with Him perfectly.
- Obedience is realising that your adoption is through by His grace, it is for us to be cautious that somebody lost the position that we might gain it - Romans 11:19 – 21 “Well,” you may say, “those branches were broken off to make room for me.” Yes, but remember—those branches were broken off because they didn’t believe in Christ, and you are there because you do believe. So don’t think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen. For if God did not spare the original branches, he won’t spare you either.
- Obedience is given ourselves to Him, living our lives through Him, having our being and existence in Him, walking in the light of His word, it is to be totally lost in Him without no way of escape from Him – Acts 17:28, Rom 11:36.

- Lord separate me and Lot: arrogance, pride, covetousness, complaining and murmuring, human knowledge, self righteousness, rebellion, achievements and status, possessions, etc.
- Everything representing Lot in my life holding me back in following you steadfastly, please Lord remove totally.
- Help me to make bold of you in my everyday live style.
- Help me to always pay attention to your word as a light to my feet and light to my path Ps 119:105.
- Help me to abide still even in the howling of storm, no matter how fierce the storm appears do not allow me to compromise, help me to hold on.
- Lord make obedience easy for my steadfastness in this journey, teach me to always say yes to your Will.
