The Mystery of the Gospel
Hymn:
Verse 1
I stand amazed in the presence Of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how He could love me
A sinner condemned unclean
Chorus
How marvellous how wonderful
And my song shall ever be
How marvellous how wonderful
Is my Saviour’s love for me?
Verse 2
He took my sins and my sorrows
He made them His very own
He bore the burden to Calvary
And suffered and died alone
(Repeat Chorus)
Verse 3
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see
'Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me
(Repeat Chorus)
Gospel – God’s mystery, God’s power, Man’s deliverance...
Text: Col 1 vs 19-28
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell
in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether
things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on
the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your
minds because of [g] your evil behaviour. 22 But now he has reconciled
you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight,
without blemish and free from accusation— 23 if you continue in your
faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the
gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every
creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. 24
Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is
still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body,
which is the church. 25 I have become its servant by the commission God
gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— 26 the mystery
that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the
Lord’s people. 27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles
the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all
wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To
this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works
in me.
- The mystery of the Gospel is Christ in you – Our salvation
- The mystery of the Gospel is the power of God.
- Gospel itself is the conviction of sin through the instruction of faith.
Rom 1 vs 16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is
the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the
Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God
is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, [e] just as it
is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
- The apostle of old preached the person of JESUS and HIM crucified, not just a gospel. Gal 2 vs 2-10
- The mystery of the Gospel is the power of the Cross. I cor 1 vs 17-30
